Singapore
Car Rental – It is easy to hire a car
in Singapore and most rentals are arranged over the
internet. Prices can vary so it is a good idea to
research a few companies before making a final choice.
Overseas drivers must have an international driver’s
license (some rental companies will accept a license
from your home country so it is worth checking this
when making the reservation). It is also advisable
to familiarise themselves with driving regulations
in Singapore and also to have a good road map to guide
you. In Singapore, driver drives on the left side
of the road.
Speed Limits in Singapore are expressed
in kilometres. The maximum speed limit is 50km per
hour in residential areas, and 90km per hour on the
expressways. Unless there are signs that indicate
there is no speed limit, it is very advisable to drive
within the speed limits as it is heavily enforced.
It is compulsory to wear seatbelts in any vehicle
in which they are fitted. It is an offence to drive
under the influence of alcohol.
Some roads have toll charges with additional charges on entering the Central Business District and on expressways, especially during peak hours.
Major and International Car Hire Companies
are located at Singapore airport terminals and in
downtown Singapore. Smaller independent and local
owned companies also offer a wider range of cars,
for examples MPVs and sport cars at competitive rates.
